Instructions for RZSPINUP Utility --------------------------------- How to Run ----------- RZSPINUP is a standalone utility and does not need to be installed. It requires, at a minimum, MS-DOS 3.1 to execute the program. The utility can be run by inserting the floppy diskette which contains the utility into drive A. After setting the default drive to the A drive at the A:\> prompt, type "RZSPINUP" followed by the ENTER key. For example : A:\>RZSPINUP This will invoke the utility. How To Use ----------- The utility utilizes the ADAPTEC SCSI controller. Once invoked it will go and sense drives on the SCSI BUS. The utility will display drives on the BUS and indicate their SCSI IDs. The utility will also automatically do the following: 1. SPINUP all RZ56 drives on the bus. 2. Enable all RZ56s on the bus to spinup on power on. Having completed this operation the utility will leave the operator at the following prompt : SCSI> The user can now issue several commands at this level if so desired, these are described below : 1. exit i.e. ( SCSI>exit ) This command will bring the user out of the utility back to the MSDOS level prompt. This is the suggested way of exiting the utility, as opposed to re-booting the machine. 2. spd i.e. ( SCSI>spd ) This command will disable the ability to spinup on power on for all RZ56s on the bus. The utility will indicate the SCSI IDs of those drives that have had their spinup-setting changed. 3. spe i.e. ( SCSI>spe ) This command will enable the ability to spinup on power on for all RZ56s on the bus. The utility will indicate the SCSI IDs of those drives that have had their spinup-setting changed. 4. init i.e. ( SCSI>init ) This command will resense which drives are on the bus and spinup all RZ56s and enable them for spinup on power on. This command is useful if some drives were not powered on when the utility was invoked. 5. show i.e. ( SCSI>show ) Indicates the types and IDs of the drives on the bus.
